full time Facility/Production Manager, Sturgeon Aquaculture

North Carolina State University is working with LaPaz Group, LLC, in Lenoir, NC, to develop a commercial sturgeon aquaculture facility. The facility contains recirculation aquaculture systems for the production of sturgeon primarily for caviar. There are currently Atlantic, Russian, and Siberian sturgeon on site, ranging from 1 – 8 years of age. We are seeking a person to manage fish and culture systems as they are brought into production, as well as provide on-site participation in research and outreach activities. Essential duties of this position will include:

1)Primary on-site responsibility for operation of a large-scale recirculating aquaculture system. Tasks include: a) Analysis and interpretation of water chemistry, determination of corrective actions to be taken when required; b) Fish husbandry including growth and feeding predictions and verification, filling and programming feeders, maintaining feed inventories, and monitoring fish populations for evidence of aquatic animal health and maturation status; c) Maintenance of records for fish production, operational and safety requirements, and inventory management.

2)Provide oversight of research projects on-site, monitoring and collecting research data, prepare reports, and research and production summaries as needed. Participate in or conduct planned outreach activities in cooperation with principal investigators.

3)Assist with continued facility development and construction, coordinating with the management of LaPaz Group, LLC, as needed and as time allows.
