Angolan government plans to support fish farming projects this year

Support for fish farming projects is one of the priorities of the Angolan State Secretariat for Fishing in 2011, the national fisheries director said in Luanda Friday.

Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, Maria Esperança Pires dos Santos noted that the reasons behind the re-launch of fish farming in Angola were included in a report on the current state of fishing resources, which contains the guidelines and presents the results expected in the short and medium term in the sector.

According to Maria Esperança dos Santos, by providing incentives to fish farming the amount of fish caught can be increased, whilst reducing pressure on more popular wild fish species as well as recover some at risk species.
